We are currently seeking an Assistant Manager – Rail Vehicle Engineering.


  • Carries out project management of specifications and performance standards pertinent to the acquisition of new rail revenue vehicles and related equipment through planning, directing, managing and coordinating the work to provide cross-functional support to several project teams
  • Ensures acquisitions of new rail revenue vehicles result in high quality, operational efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness
  • Oversees the development and administration of technical, safety and quality aspects of new rail revenue vehicles, vehicle systems and related equipment acquisitions; plans and coordinates project activities relating to warranty and inspection
  • Participates in development of new rail revenue vehicle specifications, evaluates and incorporates new technology in new vehicle procurement specifications and drawings as well as purchase recommendations
  • Makes responsible and technically sound engineering decisions regarding broadly stated objectives, soundness of work methods and approach, and policy adherence
  • Provides general engineering and administrative support and guidance in the accomplishment of the TTC’s Capital and Operating objectives in support of the purchase of rail vehicles
  • Maintains effective working relationships with various and diverse contacts both internal and external to the TTC to identify project requirements, schedules, impacts and other interrelated matters
  • Participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program
  • Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer


  • Comprehensive knowledge of the mechanical or electrical engineering discipline
  • Thorough understanding of hazard identification and mitigation processes; quality assurance and warranty administration concepts
  • Strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices, and ability to carry out and/or coordinate special projects, studies and vehicle testing procedures/programs
  • Strong technical design skills particularly in regards to urban transit vehicles and their related mechanical, pneumatic/hydraulic, electrical and electronic components
  • Sound judgement supported by well-developed analytical, problem-solving, and costing skills
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including technical writing and presentation skills
  • Well-developed management skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, coordinate efforts of others and motivate staff to achieve a high-level of productivity
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business administration, fiscal and human resources policies and legislation/regulations regarding safety and employment
  • University Degree, or College Diploma in a related discipline (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering), and directly related engineering experience working with transportation or transit vehicles, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario is mandatory
  • Experience in the administration of contracts would be an asset
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees


Annual Salary Range: $103,430.60 - $129,256.40 (Level 11SA) – 35 Hour Work Week
