Temporary Seasonal Labourer Opportunities 2018

The Toronto Transit Commission is currently accepting applications (for future requirements) into entry-level temporary opportunities in our maintenance areas. The positions vary in nature and may commence early spring or later, and some may even be less than six months in duration.

All positions involve working in a unionized environment and some require a valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing. Previous related work experience may also be required.

Most positions involve working outdoors with various shifts and off days (including night and afternoon shifts with mid-week off days). The minimum starting hourly rate ranges from $20.57 - $22.63 depending on the position.

Some examples of the types of positions that may be available are as follows:

Surface Trackworker or Subway Trackworker

  • Performing a variety of duties involved with the removal and installation of subway or streetcar tracks throughout the Commission.
  • Basic construction knowledge preferred.
  • Required to operate heavy equipment, tools, etc.
  • A valid Class “G” driver’s license is preferred.


  • This is routine and varied janitorial work throughout the subway system and other Commission building facilities.
  • This includes offices, washrooms, mezzanine and platform areas, Collector booths, etc.
  • Duties include sweeping, washing, vacuuming and scrubbing all floors, cleaning and polishing tile walls and stainless steel trim work, handrails and guardrails; picking up litter and garbage, etc.
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred.

Station Serviceperson

  • Performing a variety of heavy cleaning activities, including stripping and sealing floors, coves and stairwells utilizing electrical and battery operated machinery.
  • Scrubbing and washing various surfaces.
  • Washing walls, re-lamping, cleaning windows, etc.
  • Working at heights using ladders, scaffolds and/or motorized lift devices.
  • Performing other routine janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • A valid Class “G” driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to wear a breathing respirator, as required
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred.

Labourer (various)

  • Basic construction knowledge preferred, experience with installation and repair of terrazzo flooring will be considered an asset.
  • HVAC – mechanical/technical aptitude preferred.
  • (Grounds Maintainer) - Landscaping knowledge preferred – requires a valid Class “G” driver’s license.

End Terminal Cleaner (Carhouse Helper)

  • Involves washing interior and exterior of vehicles as directed using a variety of cleaning equipment necessary to do the work; e.g. mops, scrubbers, spray applicators, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect unsanitary vehicles.
  • Picking up litter and loose garbage, recycled papers, etc.
  • Removing any graffiti or stains if found
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred.
