Reporting to the Chief Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for preparing preliminary and final structural engineering drawings using current CADD methods, and providing general design support for various projects. This involves: laying out and preparing preliminary and final design drawings from established design standards, engineers' notes, rough sketches and verbal instructions; reviewing existing conditions, drawings and specifications, and obtaining additional data necessary for the completion of accurate drawings and specifications; visiting sites to determine and record existing conditions/deficiencies; researching additional information by liaising with various manufacturing companies, contractors and government agencies to ensure final designs are practical and meet all applicable code requirements; liaising and co-ordinating design work with other design disciplines; reviewing shop drawings and material submissions for conformity to TTC drawings and specifications, and for accuracy and completeness; ensuring that all detailed factors and standard requirements are correctly incorporated; assisting Engineers with the preparation of technical specifications; conducting studies as directed and preparing a variety of reports related to the work; providing direction to students as required and checking their drawings against design requirements to ensure dimensional accuracy and completeness; and performing related duties as assigned. You are responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. Annual Salary Range: $60,697.00 - $75,857.60 (Level 7).
You require a sound knowledge of drafting and design principles, methods and practices for structural contract drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel, pre-stressed concrete, masonry, timber and other structures. You require knowledge of the procedures and techniques for writing technical specifications specific to structural installations. You must have good knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and other applicable codes and regulations, building construction practices and the properties of construction materials. Must be proficient in computer aided drafting specifically with the use of Microstation software and associated computerized applications. You must possess excellent drafting, detail design, analytical and problem solving skills as well as good organizational, communication and technical report writing skills. These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a 2 year Community College Technician Diploma in the field of Structural or Civil Engineering Technology combined with several years of related drafting experience. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
